Our church, Saint John Church-Baptist, sponsors STARS* Tutoring Ministry for the children and youth in the community. Our mission is to provide a safe space in a Christian environment where children in Grades 1-12 can develop character, sharpen their reading, writing, and math skills while forming friendships with caring, mature Christian adults so that they can become responsible, moral,

 and informed citizens. Our staff is made up of professionals (teachers, social workers, chemists, and pharmacists) who have masters degrees, and staff assistants who are highly skilled in various fields. They are all volunteers and wish to give back to the community what God has richly given to them. They graciously volunteer 2 hours of their time each week, their expertise, their patience, their love, and provide their travel expenses to help our students. Our program focuses on one child/one tutor ratio and on the total growth of the child-mentally, physically, spiritually, morally, and socially. We have just successfully completed a pilot program serving 12 students with a staff of 12 teachers, 4 staff assistants, and 6 parents. We are now ready to launch out on a full scale of implementation serving grades 1-12.
